Monocular Depth cues: Depth cues requiring the use of only one eye.
Relative Size: If two objects are thought to be the same size the object producing a larger image on the retina is perceived as closer than the other one producing a smaller images.
Pepsi is better
Interposition(overlapping): Closer objects block the view of objects farther away.
the king of clubs covers the view of the king of spades and is therefore seen as closer.
Reduced Clarity: Faraway objects are less clear and less detailed.
The black ball is clearly an 8 ball while the green ball is hard to identify.
Texture Gradient: A change in the texture of the visual field. Texture appears worse as distance increases and better as the distance decreases.
the left mountain has more detail then the other mountain because its better in every way and all the other mountains are jealous.
Relative height: More distant objects are usually higher up than those nearby.
the higher up tree looks farther then the lower tree
Linear Perspective: The closer together two converging lines are, the greater the perceived distance
Ive never been on a train
Light and Shadow: A depth cue whereby dimmer objects appear to be farther away than bright objects.
the left closer canyon is brighter while the right side is covered in shadows
Relative Motion: When we are in motion, nearby objects will appear to move by rapidly while objects that are farther away will appear to move more slowly.
Relative motion is hard to find a picture for so here are some pretty bathroom lights. keep them in mind if you ever want to remodel.
